Tour of Lights in
Dyker Heights
Brooklyn NY

It all started when Lucy Spada's mother died, and each year to honor her mother's memory, Lucy decorated the house with more angels and lights.
But not everything was perfect. Lucy's neighbors didn't like the idea, as the street was always jammed with traffic. After much arguing, the neighbors must have thought, "If we can't beat her, let's join her."
Then, a fierce battle began. There's no official competition, but each year, neighbors add more decorations and Christmas lights to determine whose house is prettiest. The results are surprising. And we...the tourists—the winners.
The late Mr. Al Polizzotto, the man responsible for the colossal animated Santa Claus.
Mr. Al commissioned the piece during his battle with cancer, hoping to share some joy with the neighborhood and his children. He hired designer Lou Nasti, who brought the Christmas icon to life.
Santa Claus is equipped with a camera so his operator can see who's approaching and interact with them. Polizzotto's gesture meant a lot to the neighborhood. When he passed away, all the lights in Dyker Heights went black for a night.
